Just returned from a fantastic first-time skiing trip.
We booked with Airtours, stayed at the Bradul in Poina Brasov four adults, all forty something, with 2 children aged 9 & 12. We arrived the day before New Years Eve, we stayed at the Bradul Hotel. The hotel brilliant value for money, the rooms were clean and comfortable, a good 3 star rating. The food was buffet-style, offering a good and varied choice; there was something different to choose from each evening, the breakfast was excellent.
We had included with our package a New Years Eve gala dinner – wow what can I say, the meal consisted of 9 courses spread over the evening (last course – cheese and crackers – 12.45am). The entertainment provided included two different groups of local Romanian dancers, a singing group (English well catered for) and a disco.
Regarding money, I would suggest taking sterling and change it at the reception or use the ATM in the adjoining hotel.
The Adult Ski school was superb, the standard of instruction was excellent with our friendly instructor Ion speaking perfect English.
The children’s school was well organised with small groups of children of the same age, the children progressed impressively. The children’s instructors were Silviou and Elizabetha and they were very good with the children.
Included in our 6 day skiing package was ski hire, lift passes and full day instruction The ski boots and ski’s hired were Rossignol and appeared almost new.
The Gondolas and ski lifts run like clockwork and once on top of the mountains the views were spectacular. We enjoyed a meal in the café at the top of the mountain and soaked up the traditional atmosphere, before coming back down in the cable car, although we did see lots of people preparing to ski down.
All in all we would say this was an outstanding value for money holiday.
